Apple Cinnamon Tart

This past weekend a few girlfriends and I got together to engage in a few fall
activities. Summer's all about long evenings out, brief flings and that perfect
sun tan (however unattainable it is). But it's nice when fall comes around and
you can really settle down and get cozy. I can't tell you how tempted I am to
live in my sweatpants for the next three months and go in to full on hibernation

Recently, I've been getting in the groove of all your basic fall activities like
pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving and everything baking. I love all the rituals
the holiday seasons brings.

It'd been a while since my friends and I were able to get together, with just us
girls. We're all so busy these days and between work, boys, family, side projects,
and trying to sneak that workout in, it seems like there's never time for a proper

And for the occasion, I'd decided to whip up an apple cinnamon tart. There's
enough apples in it that you don't have to feel too guilty about it but PLENTY of
sugar and cinnamon to keep it sweet.

2 apples
4 tablespoons salted butter
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 premade dough crust
1 egg

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees
2. Spray pam over baking tin. Core apples and slice in to thin pieces. 
3. Lay the premade dough on to tin and cut in half
4. Put apple slices in to bowl and add cinnamon, sugar and salt. 
5. Melt butter and add to bowl with apple slices. Stir together
6. Take sugar dipped apple slices and lay out on dough
7. Wash the edges around the apple slices with egg wash made from one dough. 
8. Put tart in to oven for ten minutes. Take out and rotate after ten minutes and continue
baking for another four minutes.
9. Take out and let cool. 
10. Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar if you like and enjoy!

Descanso Gardens

So I'll be honest- I was brutally unimpressed with this brunch. Everything about it
seemed so off, from the slightly stiff customer service to the fact that they ran out
of several breakfast ingredients including egg whites and bacon. Ron Swanson
would have had a fit about that, I'm sure!

Still leaves me a little puzzled as to how a restaurant serving brunch runs out of
two of the main ingredients but hey, who knows what happened. I wanted to love it I
really did.

To ease the pain of no bacon, I opted for a drink instead, called the "Abuelito Cafecito
 Neccessito", which I may have just ordered because it was a whole lot of fun to say.

It was a whiskey based drink with cinnamon in it to give it a little something extra.
Didn't do too much for me although.

For the meal, I opted for the Green Pozole N Egg.

The chicken pozole was ppretty tasty although kind of a strange breakfast item. It was
a different mix of flavors than I'm used to and I'm not convinced it wholly worked.

Well, not all brunches can be winners, so we proceeded to finish off the day at the
Descanso Gardens which proved to be more successful than the meal at Ktchn by far.

The Descanso Gardens sit on top of 160 acres of abundant California terrain, right in
the middle of Pasadena.

It's a nice change of pace and a welcome relief to be surrounded by so much nature.
It doesn't have quite the variety of gardens and urban forestry that a few other botanical
gardens I've seen, but for the Los Angeles scene, Descanso gardens are pretty perfect.

It was nice to escape and not do with any of the typical distractions- work, friends,
tv shows, cell phone apps- and get lost in nature for a little bit.

But I think it's time for a few more adventures, what do you think?

Fall- A Quick Update

Wow! Have these past few weeks been busy. First, my laptop hard drive manages to

crash and burn and do quite the number (thankfully I use dropbox), setting me back a
whole week trying to figure that sitch out. I just barely managed to get a new hard drive
and fix it up myself. I felt a bit like Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and for a second I
considered a life of hacking and being generally bad ass, but then remembered that
actual coding is quite tricky! So back to the day job it was.

Secondly, I got to go to a work conference down in San Diego which set me back another
week. It was lots of fun but super busy and I felt like I barely had a moment to breathe.
But the view from the hotel was absolutely spectacular.

Man, is it good to be back to a schedule! I forgot how good fall can be, but already
feeling a bit busier than summer, especially with the new rush of holidays coming up!

Where has the year gone?!

And now back to the regular schedule...
